Dr. Jamie Browder

Early Childhood & Elementary Education; Orton-Gillingham Trained; Gardening Education

Jamie Browder (“Dr. B”) is a kindergarten teacher at Gadsden Elementary School in Richland One. Dr. B has spent the past 22 years teaching children from two-year-old preschool through fourth grade. He is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, allowing him to provide structured, individualized reading instruction that meets students where they are.

Dr. B is an avid gardener who uses hands-on activities to support his students’ learning and socio-emotional development. He regularly incorporates native plants and Slow Food’s “endangered” seeds into his curriculum and school landscape. In 2022, Dr. B was named the “South Carolina Conservation Teacher of the Year”. He is a two-time participant in Fulbright’s Japan-US Teacher Exchange Program for Education for Sustainable Development (2014 & 2022).

In the winter, Jamison coaches middle school basketball at Heathwood Hall, where he enjoys helping young people develop teamwork, perseverance, and character.

Dr. B earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Charleston before completing his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina.

In his free time, Jamie loves spending time traveling and watching sports with his wife Jennifer and their three children.
